Lot #384: Katana and Yari (Japanese, Koto 1596 - Edo 1868) Spear and Sword Assortment
(2) items including a signed hira sankaku yari having triangular shaped blade with bright suguha hamon (temper line) with healthy turn back at kissaki (point), including single bo hi (groove) and nakago (tang) with mei signed on both sides with single mekugi ana, including ebu (pole) mountings with (4) semegane over inlaid mother of pearl motif, darkened metal conical ishizuke (butt cap) and textured lacquered saya (sheath); having 5.125-inch cutting edge with total blade length measuring 21.75-inch from kissaki to end of nakago, 85.5-inch from ishizuke to tip of saya; as well as an o-suriage shinogi zukuri katana having irregular gunome hamon on a 26.25-inch nagasa (cutting edge) and having overall length of 33.75-inch from kissaki to end of nakago; blade may have been a koto tachi shortened over the centuries, evidenced by (2) mekugi ana, including signed, pierced iron tsuba and mounted on a naginata style ebu having inlaid mother of pearl motif, darkened metal fan-shaped ishizuke and non-original textured lacquer metallic-tone saya (sheath); it is possible there was a mei on the original nakago but it would have been lost during the shortening of the blade
